Cold Weather Knitting

So thanks to the fact that the state of Oklahoma doesn't know anything about how to deal with inclement weather, I have had a lot of time indoors. In that time I have been able to complete some projects around the apartment. One of those was a baby blanket that I have been working on for (what seems like) ages.
I am also working on a few other things. I have a peach baby blanket that i am working on that has some very interesting patterning on it and also another pair of socks. The first pair that I made already have had holes in them because I wore them so much! I really need to finish the other pair.

Ok, so it has been a really long time since my last post, but i have a good reason. I have been very busy with school, working two jobs, singing in the choir and as a background vocalist at church. So really I haven't been able to do much knitting or crocheting. I did make a pair of socks and a baby blanket in the past year amongst the confusion so it wasn't a completely waisted year. I will post pictures soon.

Okay, so after a long haitus I am back. I recently settled into my apartment in OK and got registered for school. Now I am trying to find a job. In the midst of all of this I am starting my christmas knitting. I have decided to make hats or socks for people in my family. That will help free up some of the yarn in my stash.

This is what I have made my mother so far. The striped beret from the Louisa Harding Accessories Book. I am thinking about making it in purple too, since I have that color laying around.

So last week I was on vacation and I was so ready to do some knitting. Well that didn't happen. I spent two days at the car wash getting my car detailed. Then I had to run errands for my mom. On my vacation!!!! I did get a little bit of sewing and knitting in but it was very little. I found myself realizing that everyone wants a some of your time when you are vacationing at home. You don't even have to tell anyone that you are on vacation, its like they just happen to call you in the middle of a work day and say:

"What are you doing home?"

"Um.... nothing." (shoot, wrong answer)

"Oh, are you on vacation?"

Don't say it. Don't say it. " Yeah."

"Oh well since your not busy do you want to (fill in the blank)?"

" Well, I really want to get some knitting done this week."

" You can do that anytime. I'll be there in five minutes." Click.

I guess some people don't take me seriously when I say that I want to knit or just relax. I get a little cranky when I don't have that time to myself. They just keep calling me. And when I don't answer my phone they hang up and call back 6 times!

All I need is a little time here people.

Ode to Ruby

Well, today has not been a good one. As I have mentioned before I am moving to Oklahoma in a few months and I can not keep my dog. My mother does not want take care of her for me until I can and so I have tried to find her a home. But sadly today I had to take her to the Humane Society here in Lexington. If you have never experienced it, you are not missing anything.I felt like I was giving up my only child and most of my heart went with them. She was a good dog, very calm, loved to play with anyone who would play with her, scared to death of storms, and loved to eat. I have been sad about it all day and I am praying that the Lord will find her a good home.

Well, I have officially had enough of the weather here in Kentucky. One day its 80 degrees and the next day it is snowing. What's up with that!. I thought that it was supposed to be spring. Now don't get me wrong I am used to the weather being a little weird in Kentucky this time of year, but this is not normal.

But anyway, about knitting. I am now working on the shawl that I showed y'all part of in a previous post. There are three different kinds of yarn in three different colors. Now that I am working on it I am not so sure that the colors will look right together. If you remember or want to look at the earlier post, the yarns are a not so red color, a coral color and a natural color. I think that the two reds are going to clash, but I didn't buy enough of any of them the make just one item. Now I have to combine them. Wait! Is that why they tell newbies to talk to a LYS employee before you buy the yarn? Now I understand.

I didn't post any pictures of it because I didn't want to bore you with the one panel that I have finished.

Until next time kids!!!

Stash Knitting anyone

I was looking at other blogs and noticed that Wendy and her friend have purposed to knit from their stash of yarn until September of '07. This is what I have done as well so I have copied one of the buttons on the page and pasted it on my blog.

I also found something else that I was looking for. Lace tutorials! I found these on EunnyJang's blog. Well it was new to me, I am a blog newbie. Anyway her tutorials are great and she explains them so well. I also noticed that she is the new editor at Interweave. Way to Go EunnyJang.

So much to do, so little time

I have been so busy lately with this online school that I am taking classes with, knitting, searching with my mother for a new car, and looking for an apartment in OK. I am moving there in just 4 months. I will be attending Rhema Bible Training Center and I am trying to find an apartment in Broken Arrow. In spite of all that have managed to finish over half of my baby blanket and only have 19 inches to go. I would have put a picture of my progress but my camera needs batteries.

Ok so I have been working on the white lace blanket for my mom's friend and I just can't get it right. I will get through the first 26 rows and mess up somewhere, then have to rip it out. I have done this 4 times. Not any more, I started a new blanket and due to time constraints I have decided to crochet it.Here it is so far.

Okay, yesterday I was just about finished wit the vest for my mother's co-worker but when she saw it she said that it looked to girly. Here is what it looked like before de-girling it.

I think that the reason it looked to girly to her was because the yarn that the pattern called for was discontinued so I had to substitute the best I could. Chenille yarn was the only option I had so I took it. I changed the collar so that it would not look so girly to my mother and my friends who also thought it was to girly. This is the finished product.

This pattern is from one of my favorite lines of designs Dale of Norway. I love this pattern because it has a little flap for the car seat. This is just something that I am working on for fun.

This is a scarf ( I guess) that is made from Blue Heron yarns 100% mercerized
cotton. 1 hank of this is enough for a shawl. But since I am a big girl I knew that wouldn't be the case for me.

This is one legwarmer that I finished for my niece. She was with me in the yarn store one day and loved the color of this yarn. She told me she wanted me to knit her some half-stockings for dancing, like the ones they wear in the movie Center Stage. She is pretty bossy for an 8 year old.

These are three of the recently finished baby blankets I have done. the top two are from the Candy Blankets book and the last is from Knit Along With Debbie Macomber: The Shop on Blossom Street.
